Description of the study : This is a research study about Detroit neighborhoods, and the physical activity levels and health of residents. The study aims to understand physical activity and neighborhood conditions that support healthy residents. We hope that this study can build Detroit as an example of healthy, active neighborhoods for other cities across the USA.
Description of the job : You will be responsible for distributing flyers about the study and recruiting participants from Detroit neighborhoods. You will be visiting homes door-to-door, following a planned route, with another employee. You will obtain participant consent and enrollment in the study. You will need your own reliable transportation to visit neighborhoods, and will be reimbursed for travel. You will also conduct a survey and a health appointment where you will take height, weight, blood pressure, a finger prick, and retrieve study equipment that the participant was issued.
You will be trained on all these techniques – no prior experience is necessary . However, after training, you must be comfortable working with individuals and contained biological specimens (specifically, blood and saliva samples). You will enter all information into a tablet computer. You will be part of a Detroit-based team and will be assisted by a team at Michigan State University and supported by two coordinators and a manager.
Required : Applicants must be a resident of the City of Detroit as this is where the study is being conducted. Applicants are not required to live in the neighborhoods selected in this study. Required: Associates degree, CNA or higher, or current Bachelor’s student. You must have your own reliable transportation.
Rate of Pay : $11-13/hour
Hours per week
: All
field staff work 29 hours/week, you must work all 29 scheduled hours each week.
Note that there are two shifts (morning (9am-4pm) and afternoon (12pm-7pm))
